I love Dropbox, but the 2Gb free quota limits me from using it to share/sync large files or folders and the paid options are a bit too exe for me.
Enter Wuala. Wuala is a safe, secure way to store/backup/share stuff online, access it from the web (Java required) and just recently, they’ve added the ability to sync files between your computers.
You only get 1Gb storage for free, but there are several ways to increase your quota. You can buy extra storage (cheaper than Dropbox and more levels), or get up to 6Gb for inviting friends (disclaimer: one reason I’m writing this post).
The really innovative option however, is to allow Wuala to use your computer for storage. This contributes to the overall pool of available storage and increases your pesonal storage quota. All files are encrypted and stored redundantly and noone unauthorised can access your files.
You can share files with friends or the public and set up groups to share things with like-minded people.
Unlike most other online storage services, all your files get encrypted on your computer, so that no one - including the employees at Wuala and LaCie - can access your private files.
If you’d like to give Wuala a go and start sharing things with me and others, just click on the title of this post.
Cheers,
John
